Youth Aquatics Classes

PARENT & CHILD
Under age 3 (with parent)

Children are grouped by age in these fun and confidence-building programs. Parents/care givers must accompany their child into the pool to assist in the adjustment process. Tight rubber pants or elastic legged bathing suits are required.
 

SHRIMP/KIPPER
6 months -1½ yrs

Children must have head control and the ability to sit up unassisted.

18 months - 2½ yrs.

Water adjustment through repetition,
songs and games.

PERCH
2½ yrs - 3½ yrs.

This class is designed to teach skills necessary for the transition to the preschool program. The child will be encouraged to be more independent with less assistance from parents/caregivers.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Four 30-minute lessons. Private lessons are used to help the swimmer overcome a certain obstacle or fear.  Please contact the Aquatic Staff for time and availability.

PRE-SCHOOL
Ages 3-5 (without parent)

Includes basic water and boating safety, stroke development and independent skill work. Flotation devices are used. Instructor ratio is 1:6

Children are required to swim short    distances without assistance.

Pre-requisite:Reach and pull in a   horizontal position with kicking and
face in the water for a distance of 30 feet.

Pre-requisite: Rays. Introduction to  rotary breathing and alternating
arm movements on
the back.

YOUTH
Ages 6-14

Children are grouped by physical abilities. Classes include basic water and boating safety, diving, emergency procedures and self-confidence, physical wellness and personal values. Report cards are given the last class session with a recommendation on which class to register for in the upcoming session. Instructor ratio is: Polliwog/ Guppy 1:6 Minnow, Fish, FF/Shark 1:8
 

POLLIWOG

(30 minute) Children develop self confidence while learning stroke development. Skills include front, back and side strokes, rhythmic breathing water games and safety.

(30 minute) Children must be able to complete the following with out flotation: swim 75 ft, rhythmic breathing, over arm stroke, tread water for one minute and back float for 15 sec.

(45 minute) Children must be able to complete: 50yd.swim with rotary breathing 50yd. Backstroke and 5 min back float

FISH

(45 minute) Pre-requisite: Minnow Children must be able to complete: 50yd. Freestyle, 50yd. Backstroke, 25yd. Breaststroke, tread water for 2 min.

SHARK/FLYING FISH

(45 minute) Pre-requisite: Fish Children must be able to complete: 100yd.  Freestyle with rotary breathing, flip turn, Elementary backstroke and 50yd. Sidestroke.
